Teaching Your Child to Draw

Drawing and coloring is a fun process for the children. Most of the kids like to color pictures in different shades of colors and some of them like to draw and paint pictures. This activity has lot of benefits for a kid. Drawing and coloring helps to develop the mental ability to configure various colors and to strengthen mind and hand co-ordination for younger kids. From a drawing or coloring exercise, your child can learn to concentrate her mind on a particular activity. If she becomes an expert in drawing, she can use this skill to draw her study related figures and pictures. In case she really likes to draw, then she might continue drawing and in future she might pick up some drawing related careers. So, you must teach the basic techniques of drawing or coloring at a very tender age, such as when she has started playschool.

You should start to teach her drawing, once she can hold the pencil properly. Initially, she will not be able to draw anything, but with right guidance and proper direction she will acquire this knowledge. However, to start with, you should teach her to fill color in coloring books or back to school coloring pages. These coloring pages can be easily downloaded from the internet.

Once your child learns to color, then start teaching her drawing simple shapes like ball, apple etc. The total learning process of drawing and coloring is quite a lengthy procedure and it might take several years just to draw a circle. If your child has concealed talent, then she will learn fast. When your child can draw simple shapes, introduce her to the next level of drawing animals, household items with easy strokes. For coloring the pictures, give her the non-toxic wax crayons. As she grows up, shift her from wax crayons to pencil colors to oil pastels to water colors. Managing water colors is quite difficult, so she can use this only when she is an expert with the other forms.

The preschool institutions also pay sufficient attention for teaching the kids to draw. However, a kid should be initiated to pencils, papers and colors from a very young stage.
