Morning Sickness Can Be One of the Hardest Parts of Pregnancy

Morning sickness can be one of the hardest parts of pregnancy, and often takes a beautiful, exciting thing, and makes it miserable, at least for a while. So, here are some tips for how to get through morning sickness.

1. Good nutrition: If you have morning sickness, you are going to likely throw up much of what you eat. So, in addition to finding ways to combat the sickness itself, look for ways to ensure your body is getting the nutrients it needs. Most women find that if they eat plenty of fresh foods, fruits and vegetables, they will still have morning sickness, but worry less about whether or not their baby is getting what it needs.

2. Bland foods: Once you focus on healthy foods, figure out what you can keep down, bland foods, foods that don’t burn or make you more sick when the food comes back up. Most women find that they can keep down baked potatoes, wheat toast, bananas, and other dry and bland foods.

3. Medicine: If you really can’t handle the morning sickness, and even the bland, dry, healthy foods are coming back up, then you should talk to your doctor about taking a prescription. There are drugs to help fight morning sickness, but most of them will leave you groggy so you may not want to take them if you are at work. Look for holistic options.

4. Keep food in your stomach. Most women suffering from morning sickness will tell you that if they go too long without eating, they get sick, and then it doesn’t matter what they eat or how often. So, make a point of keeping something in your stomach, snack throughout the day on low calorie, high nutrition foods, so that your stomach always has a little something in it. Do not over consume, however, as too full of a stomach can make you sick as well.

5. Keep blood sugar level. When your blood sugar spikes or drops, morning sickness picks up. So, eat consistently, even if nothing sounds good, and make sure you are eating a balanced diet so that you do not have blood sugar problems.  One great tip is to eat protein before bed. This will help keep your morning blood sugar where it should be. Often blood sugar drops at night because it is a long time between meals. If you eat complex carbs and protein before bed, it should last longer, and you won’t be nearly as sick when you wake up.

6. Avoid foods that trigger nausea. There may be no scientific reason for it, but certain foods will make you sicker. You might have gotten really sick after eating an apple, so each time you see an apple you get sick again. Avoid foods that trigger nausea for you, even if they work for someone else.

7. Vitamin b-6, possibly matched with unisom. It has been found that this helps with morning sickness, but again, Unisom is a sleep pill, and will make you tired. Try half a pill with a whole vitamin B-6 for better results.
