Monitoring your Kid’s Online Activities

Gone are the days when computers were only meant for offices and work. Computers no longer exist in the domain of adults. Children are at ease with the workings of a computer and in fact, we often hear adults calling their kids to help them fix an error. The disadvantage of kids having access to computers is that they have access to all sorts of content in the world of the Internet.

It is important to educate your child regarding the proper usage of credit cards. Having access to the Internet and to your credit card is a not so safe a combination. They can bring forth huge mishaps. So, one needs to practice a great amount of responsibility and practicality in dealing with such matters. You cannot really prevent your kid from having access to both after a while. And if a thing is dangerous, it is always better you educate your child about it rather than seclude him or her from it.

The only way one can do this is to learn about the Internet. No matter how old or young you are, if you want to protect your child from this, you will have to learn the medium yourself. It is only then that you can have an idea as to what your child is doing online.

Here are a couple of things that you can do to safeguard your child:

  • Software programs will give parents control over what your child accesses through the Internet. They act as an invisible barrier and prevents unwanted pop ups and sites containing explicit material. Internet providers often offer software programs that do the above-mentioned things as well as prevent your child from passing out personal information.
  • Do not give your child an Internet connection in their bedrooms. It is better you place the computer in a public sphere like the living room where you can keep a watch.

When you are monitoring your child’s Internet activities, always let them know. It is best you remain as non-interfering as possible. That will prevent them from hiding things from you. But having access to your child’s e-mails, websites they visit should be considered a safety measure.

Good information. I also think, we should monitor kid's online activities. This way we can lead child towards informative and developing contents.
