Kid’s Birthday Poem

68

By Debbie Gee

If you are searching for the perfect birthday gift for your child and at the same time you are hoping for it to be reasonably priced then here is a priceless idea for it: a birthday poem. Don’t worry; you are not being expected to write pages of rhymed verses that will be compared to Shakespeare. Make it personal and affectionate.

  • One thing you should remember while writing a poem for your child is to use simple language. Big words and confusing underlying meanings of lines may be good for literature class. But here you are trying to convey your love and care to your child. Also remember that he/she is young and will not be reading the poem with a dictionary and a guide beside himself/herself.
  • Write the poem by hand. Don’t print it out. Although the latter may be neat and perfect no one is looking for perfection here. Your kid will be searching for the personal touch. A handwritten poem will surely convey that.
  • There are many birthday cards available in the market. Choose one that has a pretty motif in front. Make sure that the inside is blank so that you can use it to write the poem there. Instead of using plain paper used for letters, you can use these birthday cards that are easily available and come in various options as far as designs are concerned. They are also not too expensive.
  • If you don’t have any ideas of your own regarding the subject of your poem you may look online and see what others have written. You will realize that not only have people written poems to their children on their birthdays, but also to other people in their lives on various other occasions.

Writing poems on anniversaries to your partner, on Thanksgiving or New Year’s Day to your friends and family or one to your parents for completing fifty years of marriage are common.

Although it is okay to look for ideas online and read others’ poems don’t go ripping poems off others’ composition. You may never be charged with a case of plagiarism, but by doing so you are defeating the point of writing poems to your special ones on a special occasion.
