This article seems more like an opinion based piece thank a factual article. Do you have empirical evidence to show us of children who played chess doing better in school, doing better than a person who never played chess in their lives? Have you performed case studies yourself?
I love chess. I love chess club and I believe there are many lessons that a kid can learn from the interaction with other chess players.
But there are other games that actually top chess in terms of using analytical ability. The game Go for example, is a game that is oftend said to have been the reason for the number of times the France and the US was beaten so badly in the Vietnam Conflict.
Chess is based on specific rules with only a handful of ways to win. Go has literally thousands of possible strategies and it takes years to master.
I agree with the sentiment of the article. But like Nate Sean says, it would be very useful if there were some studies or reseach we could refer to in order to back up these claims. If anyone knows of any please post the details.
