Eww! Get a reaction from your makeup this year!

Makeup for Halloween can help you take a basic or ordinary costume, and make it extraordinary. However, if you do not put it on the right way, it will be more of a pain than an asset for the holiday.

The following are some basic Halloween makeup instructions to follow whether you are going to be a witch, a ghoul, or a clown:

1. Choose your costume. You can’t properly apply and choose your Halloween makeup is to know what your costume is going to be, and how you want it to look. So, if you are going to be a cat, for example, you will want to decide what color you want it to be, and whether you want it to be a solid colored cat, a calico cat, a striped cat, tabby, black, etc.

2. Pick the right makeup colors and types. So, no matter what kind of thing you are for Halloween, you will want to blend paints and highlight, shadow, etc. for a more realistic look. So, the first choice you have to make is what kind of makeup you want to use. There are a million choices, from creams to tubes, sticks, oils or grease paints, face paints, and simple powder makeup. You won’t want to mix types, so choose the type that works best for your overall look. For example, if you are just adding a few lines or something to give some definition, a stick might be best. For all over face paint, use a cream based makeup.

3. Layer lightest to darkest. If you are going to add layers, start with the lightest layers, and add darker as you go on. For example, if you want to be a lion, start with a light coat of yellow. Then, add some brown and orange and texture it and layer it so that you have some dimension and it will look more like a real lion. Of course, you will want to take some black to outline the eyes, the nose, and of course draw on whiskers, etc.

4. Allow dry time between coats. When you apply makeup, you have to let the makeup or paint dry between coats, or colors will mix, and it will not stay on well. You want each coat to dry so that it has a chance to set.

5. Set makeup with baby powder or corn starch. Once you have every layer of face paint and makeup on, you should set it so that you can feel comfortable with touching your face, and not being worried about it smearing or smudging while you are at your party, and out having fun. You can do your child’s makeup in the morning and their Halloween face makeup will last all day. You mist it and then pat it down with some baby powder or cornstarch. Then you can touch it all day, but it still washes off all day.
