Scrabble is a classic board game, which is not only fun to play, but also acts as a great educational tool. Now-a-days, schools have started using scrabble as a tool to boost the spelling and language skills in kids. A lot of after school clubs have also come up, where scrabble lovers and enthusiasts of different age groups and skill levels come together and enjoy the game in a healthy learning environment.

But, when there are so many other board games, why is scrabble given so much of importance? Well, the reason is simple enough – scrabble aids in building your memory skills, helps develop critical thinking, as well as teaches problem solving skills. All these skills are very vital for the growth and development of any child and therefore, scrabble has grown to be hugely popular throughout the world as an educational tool.

The benefits of scrabble are enlisted below –

  • It increases the vocabulary of a person. Even if you are learning a new language, scrabble greatly helps in picking up many new words and builds a great vocabulary.
  • It teaches spelling skills to children.
  • It enhances the mathematical skills in a person and shows us how adding one new letter can change a word or the entire meaning of a word.
  • It helps develop critical thinking in a person and teaches problem solving skills
  • It helps in developing an improved memory and a sharper brain.
  • When seniors play scrabble regularly, it leads to increased mental agility and alertness in them.
  • It also promotes healthy and optimal brain functioning in the elderly people, and prevents the onset of degenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s or any other mental disorders.
  • Playing this game regularly leads to improved concentration
  • Playing scrabble regularly aids in boosting the intelligence.
  • This game prepares the brain for long term storage, retention and retrieval of information.
  • Scrabble involves the left-hemisphere of the brain and therefore, it stimulates the development and functioning of brain in children

Not only do we draw these benefits, but we also draw a lot of fun playing this game. So, why not get started?

Scrabble is my very favorite game! Love to play it with my family as well as on-line, and I agree that it teaches language skills, spelling and vocabulary. I'm adding a link to my hub 7 Useful lessons I learned in High School. Good hub!
